Bone broth for joint pain & immunity

My qi gong healer  told me about the health benefits of bone broth a few years ago. When I told my acupuncturist i made an 18 hour bone broth he responded “how did YOU hear about bone broth?” Yes, the white girl knoweth more about Asian health foods than it would appear (READ: I have pasty skin). You know you’re LA when you use the phrases “my qi gong healer” and “my acupuncturist” in the same paragraph or, you know, at all.

This is a pretty cute article listing the benefits of bone broth.  My advice: go to Whole Foods and ask for bones for broth. It’s pricier than other places but then you know you’re not getting the bones of a hormone-infused cow and ask for variety so you get different joints.  One of the benefits of the broth is to detox. One doesn’t need to put more funk in while attempting to rid of other…funk.

IMPORTANT: Add a few tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar to draw out the minerals. Simmer the broth for at least 12 hours. I do 18 but you can go longer – the longer the better. Just watch your pot. And your house is gonna stink.People have good advice for recipes. Just google “bone broth.”

Many people roast the bones first but i don’t really care if i get the extra flavor or not. I do add onion, carrot and celery but they will not be there by the time you are ready to consume the broth. You can then build a soup with the stock.  I add a few veggies, some rice and I then eat it for a solid week to get the boost to my immune system. I have done this only annually because i am lazy as all get out. One day i will do it more.  This will make you appreciate gelatinous homemade soups. I now see that as pure joint help.

  1. Hey! I just happen to have a pot of BB on the stove right now. I was going to take it off after 10 hours, but you have shamed me into more. Loving your blog, so inspiring.

    And loving you. Deb
